Vigil for Colorado Springs and Virginia Injured and Murdered

A special invitation and focus for allies, supporters, family, friends and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Bring and wear gear in support of the communities particularly under attack in Virginia.

Date & Location

Dec 04, 2022, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Merrifield, US-29 & Porter Rd, Merrifield, VA 22042, USA

About the Event

We will gather with signs, flags, songs and candles to honor but express our opposition to the growing attacks on the LGBTQIA+ and all communities in Virginia and this country. Queer and allied communities are coming together to honor and mourn victims, families and the LGBTQIA+ community in Colorado Springs after Q club tragedy; the UVA community after the mass shooting there; and the City of Chesapeake.

This Sunday December 4, at 2 p.m.:

gather at the corner of Porter Road and US-29 (Lee Highway)--across from behind the H-Mart at 8103 Lee Highway. Look for the Rainbow and Pride Progress signs/flags.

As the residents of the Castro in San Francisco sang when Harvey Milk and Mayor Moscone were assassinated in 1978:

"We are a peaceful, angry people, and we are singing for our lives (composed by Holly Near)."

We will gather to mourn and to show the solidity of our community and Family in the face of an onslaught of hateful media aimed at our most vulnerable families, children and residents.
